Building "Green"
What is building "green"?
Building green is a growing trend among home builders
and general contractors that ensure a better living environment for their
clients. The key factors are air quality, energy consumption and the
environment.
Will building my house
"green" cost more?
Your upfront costs could be a little higher but
in the long run, you will save substantially by using much more energy efficient
materials thus reducing your energy costs. Your energy bills can be reduced as
much as 30% and in some cases, even more.
What's the advantage to building "green"?
The two major determining factors are the
quality of indoor air and the over 30% reduction in energy costs. Other factors
that are important to a "green" conscious person is the impact on the
environment and the reduction of gas emissions and landfill waste.
What materials or products are used that are considered
"green"?
Most importantly is the use of recycled or
recyclable products that are energy efficient and will last longer than normally
used products. There are far too many to list here but if you would like to read
more information on them, you can click

What certifications are required to be a "green"
builder?
To be completely honest, building green is a
purely volunteer program. You can read more on what it takes for a builder to be
certified here. What it
is though, is a commitment to helping the environment and dedication to an ideal
as a whole. Brakel Construction has been dedicated to this ideal for over 30
years. The Grand Traverse Home Builder's Association offers a Green Build
checklist that a structure must score at least 150 points on to be certified
"Green". In addition, each building must be inspected by a Program Inspector.
Why would a builder want to "Build Green"?
Building Green is a trend that is the future. To
remain competitive in today's "Green" world, as a builder, you have to stay
ahead of the competition. But you also have to hold a belief in the ideals of
building green. Brakel Construction has always held this belief and has made
efforts to stay on top of this ideal and to know more about building green than
it's competition.
